I recently returned from a trip to Trinidad and Tobago where I took a group of students to work on tropical botanical illustrations. I am intrigued by tropical plants, the foods, herbal remedies, and exotic beauty we get from these plants of the Rain Forest. This is an ideal location for a Botanical Workshop.
Imagine having lush flowering and fruiting plants at your fingertips, yet still have the comfort of a comfortable roof over your head and delicious local food served at each meal. It’s a way to work intensely on drawing and studying tropical plants, and experience the natural beauty of the Rain Forest in a relaxed manner. The staff at Asa Right Nature Center is friendly, knowledgeable, and the food prepared in the kitchen is delicious. Each day started with coffee and tea on the veranda at 6am for those wanting to get a look at the morning birds, breakfast at 7:30am, lunch at noon, tea at 3pm, rum punch at 6pm and dinner at 7pm. In between we worked, hiked, and swam. We spent two nights at the beautiful Blue Waters Inn on Tobago to draw the beach flora and hiked along remote tropical cliffs.
I am exploring ideas for next year’s workshop. So far I am thinking Tuscany, Dominica or Hawaii. Where would you like to go? Please Post Comments here and Let me know !!!!

Both Tuscany and Dominica sound great. let me know what you decide, I’m interested in participating. Thanks, Cynthia Rice
Tuscany sounds pretty awesome!
Yes, I’d like to know more. I really like the idea of either but wish you would do the Tridad again It sounds just right.
I wonder if this trip would be a proper project for a grant. The expense maybe more than I can handle. I am currently in the Wellesley certificate program and that takes most of my budget.
Tuscany or Hawaii sound wonderful!! Not only am I interested in learning some great art techniques, but I am willing to be an on call photographer…film AND DIGITAL to please on the spot!!
The Tuscany and Hawaii locals sound wonderful and would be a great vacation. I feel either location would present a distraction from the goal of botanical art. I might be in class distracted by the thought of getting out to tour Tuscany or Hawaii.
The Trinidad experience you described sounds so perfect- would you please consider doing it again? It was close and affordable too- Dominica also sounds like it may be a similiar experience to Trinidad and less likely to be torn from my drawing immersion.
Trinidad and Tobago is a wonderful land full of great wildlife. Please give respect to the great country by spelling Trinidad and Tobago correctly as they do appreciate your love for their country, keep up the excellent work!
